Presented by the Idaho Chamber Alliance

On Thursday afternoon, January 29, over 40 chamber representatives gathered in the Lincoln Auditorium of the Idaho State Capitol building to hear from Idaho’s political and industry leaders on topics ranging from childcare to taxation.

The ICA’s annual Capitol Chamber Day began with Idaho’s 33rd Governor, Brad Little, welcoming the chamber assembly. The leader of the Idaho Senate, Pro Tempore Kelly Anthon (R-Rupert), and Speaker of the House Mike Moyle (R-Star) highlighted Idaho’s fiscal challenges, childcare shortage, the fragile economy, and the threat of a proposed Utah fuel export tax.

The two co-chairmen of the legislature’s Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee, Senator Scott Grow and Representative Josh Tanner, walked chamber representatives through the complexities of Idaho’s fiscal challenges. They shared their vision on how they will lead the JFAC in the upcoming weeks to balance the state’s budget for the current and upcoming fiscal years.

A slate of industry advocates rounded out the Chamber Day session by addressing some of the most compelling key issues facing Idaho’s business community. Kelley Packer, Executive Director of the Association of Idaho Cities, discussed a proposal the organization is developing to address caps on local growth originally imposed by House Bill 389 in 2021.

John Eaton, Vice President of the Idaho Association of Commerce & Industry (IACI), shared his insights into the debate on state tax conformity to the federal tax reductions of the OBBBA. Eaton’s IACI colleague, Jessica Anderson, provided color to IACI’s efforts to support state grant dollars that will expand childcare opportunities for Idaho’s workforce and businesses.

The ICA Board of Directors wrapped up the busy day hosting 40 state legislators, state constitutional officers, and legislative staff for dinner Thursday evening. ICA Chairman and Nampa Chamber CEO Mitch Minnette emceed the evening event joined by 11 other ICA chamber board members.

Mark your calendars now for next year’s Capitol Chamber Day, scheduled for Thursday, January 28, 2027.
